If God be for us

If God Be for Us, Who Can Be Against Us? A Powerful Testimony of Divine Protection

The Christian life is not lived in isolation from spiritual realities. While many people focus only on what they can see and touch, Scripture reminds us that there is an unseen realm where battles are constantly taking place. As believers, our confidence is not in our own strength but in the assurance that God is for us. If God be for us, who can be against us?

This truth became deeply personal to me through a profound spiritual encounter – one that reinforced the power of prayer, the authority of Christ, and the security of abiding in God’s presence.

A World Beyond the Physical

The Bible clearly teaches that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). This means that many challenges believers face are not merely natural; they are spiritual in nature.

After returning from an overnight vigil, I was already preparing myself for another programme scheduled for the following day. Physically drained, I laid down on the floor in our sitting room to rest. Nothing seemed unusual – until the Holy Spirit intervened.

A Divine Warning in the Night

At exactly 11:30 pm, I was suddenly awakened. It wasn’t the sound of a voice or noise in the room. It felt as though an invisible hand physically tapped me and instructed me to sit up. The instruction was firm and urgent.

However, exhaustion overcame me. My eyes were heavy, and I drifted back to sleep.

Again, the Holy Spirit woke me. This time, I obeyed. When I sat up, I noticed the time – it was 11:45 pm.

What followed was something I will never forget.

A Spiritual Attack Interrupted

Almost immediately after sitting up, a bat entered the room in a very unusual way – appearing to come through the wall. It flew directly toward me, aiming repeatedly at my chest. There was nothing random about its movement. It was aggressive and intentional.

I dodged the bat about three times, sensing clearly that this was more than a natural occurrence. Reaching for a broom, I began to pray and speak in tongues.

Something remarkable happened.

As I prayed, the bat suddenly became weak. What had moments earlier been forceful and threatening now lost its strength. With ease, I struck it down using the broom in my hand.

That moment revealed a powerful spiritual truth: prayer changes the atmosphere, and the presence of God weakens every work of darkness.

If God Be for Us, Who Can Be Against Us?

Scripture declares:

“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

This does not mean enemies will not arise. It means that no enemy – physical or spiritual – can ultimately succeed against a person who is covered by God.

The enemy may attempt to strike, intimidate, or destroy, but the believer who dwells in God’s presence is untouchable beyond God’s permission.

Dwelling in the Secret Place of the Most High

Psalm 91:1 assures us:

“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

The secret place is not a physical location – it is a spiritual position. It is a life of intimacy with God, sustained through prayer, obedience, and faith. Those who remain in this place enjoy divine protection, spiritual sensitivity, and supernatural covering.

When you stay connected to Christ, your security is not negotiable. Heaven takes responsibility for your safety.

Spiritual Warfare Is Real

The world we live in is not neutral. There are real spiritual forces at work, some aligned with darkness and destruction. Yet, God’s power far outweighs them all.

As the Yoruba saying goes:

“Ayé wà, òògùn wà, ṣùgbọ́n Ọlọ́run wà pẹ̀lú.”
(Yes, the world is wicked. Yes, there is witchcraft. But there is also God.)

This statement reflects biblical truth. Darkness exists – but light always overcomes darkness.

The Power in the Name of Jesus Christ

One of the greatest weapons available to believers is the name of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that:

“At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Philippians 2:10)

When the name of Jesus is spoken in faith, spiritual forces respond. Fear retreats; Darkness weakens; Victory is enforced.

In moments of spiritual confrontation, it is not physical tools that bring deliverance – it is spiritual authority.

Living Fearlessly Under God’s Covering

This experience reaffirmed a truth every believer must hold onto: God does not leave His children unprotected. Even when we are unaware, He warns, intervenes, and preserves.

Our responsibility is to remain sensitive to His voice, prayerful in spirit, and rooted in Christ. When we do, no weapon formed against us can prosper.

Final Thoughts: God Is With You

You may not always see the battles happening around you, but heaven is actively involved in your defense. As long as God is for you, no enemy can successfully prevail.

Stay connected to Christ.
Remain in prayer.
Trust in His protection.

There is power in the name of Jesus Christ and God is on your side.
